On March 10, 1921, a little restaurant in Wichita, Kansas began serving grilled 100 percent-beef hamburger sandwiches on a bun. With a $3.75 profit in his pocket at the end of the first day, White Castle founder Billy Ingram launched the Crave – an insatiable appetite for the burgers that spread quickly across the country. White Castle has shaped America’s love of the humble hamburger and the entire fast-food industry with our distinctive Original Slider® hamburgers.

Ingram chose the name of his restaurant carefully. “White” signified cleanliness and purity, and “Castle” signified strength, stability and permanence. And so it has stood for 90 years.
